Getting a good Bont Boot fit!
Everything you need to know about getting the perfect fit from your Bont boots — from sizing and width options to orthotics, blisters, and boot care.
Do Boots and Frames Come in Pairs?
Yes — all boots and frames come in pairs.
What Is the Difference Between the Vaypor, Eclipse, and Jet?
Each model is made for three different sports: long track ice, short track ice, and inline. Each has a different boot height, constructed with varying amounts of different materials, different mounting blocks, and different stiffness levels. We wouldn’t advise using a long track boot for inline — it’s too soft and constructed very differently.
Vaypor: Constructed to minimise weight and maximise strength. Uses a special thermoset resin and is made entirely from carbon, including uni-directional carbon for even greater weight savings.
Eclipse: A carbon boot without uni-directional carbon. Similar stiffness to the Vaypor but without some of the premium features such as a TPU bumper, zippers, and longer lace covers.
Jet: Uses a mix of fibreglass and carbon for the base. Still super mouldable thanks to Bont’s Super Mould Technology, and lighter than many competitors’ top-range boots — though heavier than the Vaypor and Eclipse. If you’re just getting into the sport, you won’t notice the difference.
What Is “Room for Growth”?
When buying skates for a child, finding a balance between long-term use and safety is important. Oversized skates can lead to ankle injuries and blisters. Our “Room for Growth” option selects the right size for your child’s current foot and carefully adds a few millimetres of length for future growth — ensuring a secure ankle fit now, with space to grow into later.
I Use Orthotics in My Skates — What Can I Do?
We have a number of solutions — choose the one that best fits your needs:
- Built-in permanently: We build the orthotic into the boot permanently. You’ll need to send the orthotic to us. Cost: +£30 on top of any boot.
- Built-in but removable: We build the boot with the orthotic inside, but it can be removed. You won’t be able to use the boot without it. Cost: +£30 on top of any boot.
- Moulded in via custom socks: Stand on your orthotic while making moulding socks for a custom pair of boots. The orthotic is built into the foot mould — no additional cost for custom boots.
How Do I Fit Orthotics Using Bont Sox?
Place the orthotic on the floor and put some plastic over it. Then mould your feet using the Bont Sox — the orthotic will be built into your foot mould. If you’re not using orthotics, we prefer to mould your feet with a plaster mould.
Why Are My Sneakers 2 Sizes Bigger Than My Bont Skates?
When Mr. Inze Bont first developed his last in 1975, he was a size 8. Over the years, as sneaker manufacturers moved to Asia, last sizes have shrunk — Mr. Bont is now a size 10. Our last sizes haven’t changed in over 48 years, whereas running shoe lasts have changed significantly.
Are Narrow, Wide, and Double Wide Considered Semi Custom?
Yes — narrow, wide, and double wide boots are considered semi-custom because they have to be individually made. They take 6–8 weeks to arrive.
Which Boots Come in Wide and Double Wide?
Available in wide and double wide (Inline): Vaypor, Slipstream, Super Jet, Jet.
Not available in wide fitting (Inline): Semi-Race III.
My Boots Are Giving Me a Little Pain — What Can I Do?
Heat mould them — this is the first thing to try. Another option is to use EZeefit booties for extra cushioning and protection while your boots break in.
I Have Blisters on My Ankle — How Do I Stop Them?
Blisters are a skater’s worst enemy! There are two main culprits:
- Ill-fitting boots: Make sure your boots fit snugly without being too tight. Oversized boots are a recipe for blisters. Get your boots heat-moulded for a custom fit.
- Improper technique: Pushing off with your toes instead of your heels can cause your ankles to shift, leading to friction and blisters.
The Fix:
- Let your feet heal first — trying solutions while still blistered won’t give you an accurate picture.
- Focus on form: Consciously lift your toes and push off to the side with your heels. Having someone video you can help identify areas to correct.
- Make it a habit: Once heel-pushing feels natural, you won’t need to focus on lifting your toes as much.
If you continue to experience heel blisters even after correcting your form, the Rip Jaws Boot Stretcher can help with targeted stretching for a customised, pain-free fit.
How Should I Take Care of My Bont Boots?
- Always dry your boots in the shade after use — sweat can damage the liner.
- Don’t leave them damp.
- Be careful not to overtighten bolts, or you could strip the nuts.
- Never leave your skates in a hot place (e.g. the back of a car). Bont boots use thermoplastics that can deform with heat, affecting their custom fit.
