Heat Moulding your Bont Skates

IMPORTANT: Fibreglass boots are heat moulded differently from carbon or carbon composite boots. Please scroll down to the relevant section for your boot type. Fibreglass boots DO NOT go in the oven.

Bont boots are the most heat mouldable boots available. Bont’s proprietary resin has been developed and perfected over 45 years to be an extremely stiff resin that becomes pliable at relatively low temperatures. Unlike other skates which are mouldable only in select locations, all Bont boots can be moulded over the entire base — giving skaters the most anatomically designed boot on the market, with the ability to fine-tune the fit across the entire boot.

You may have tried heat moulding other brands and found you needed to increase the temperature. That is not the case with Bont boots — we urge you to start with low temperatures.

Heat Moulding FAQ: If the boots take 20 minutes to mould at 85°C, can I put them in the oven for 10 minutes at 170°C? No. Please stick to the guidelines and your boots will not be damaged.

How to Heat Mould Your Carbon Fibre or Carbon Composite Inline Boots

  1. Remove the wheels, frame, and mounting bolts from your boots. If your insoles are removable, take them out. If you have waxed or shimmer laces, remove those too.
  2. Pre-heat your oven to 85°C / 185°F. Use an external thermometer to ensure accuracy — some oven thermostats can be unreliable.
  3. Place your boots in the oven for approximately 15–20 minutes. Exceeding the recommended temperature will void your warranty and may damage your boots.
  4. After 15 minutes, check readiness by gently squeezing the back of the boot. If the resin has softened, they’re ready. If not, return to the oven and check every 5 minutes.
  5. Caution: Do not place your feet in hot boots — you may burn yourself. Allow the boots to cool slightly and check the temperature with your hand before putting them on.
  6. Tighten the straps and buckles, then stand in the boots with your knees slightly bent.
  7. Do not lift your heels off the ground or walk in the boots while hot — this can cause cracks or damage to the carbon.
  8. Allow 5–10 minutes for the boots to cool on your feet for a secure, comfortable fit.
  9. If you have any lumps, bunions, or pressure points while the boot is still warm, use the round end of a blunt object to gently press out that area of the boot.
