Semi Custom Bont Boots
You love to skate — but a standard boot just won’t fit your foot, and a fully custom boot blows your budget? Then you need a boot that not many skaters know exists: a semi-custom boot.
A semi-custom boot is a standard boot with targeted modifications to fit an individual foot. Common problems a semi-custom boot can fix include:
- One foot longer or wider than the other
- Skinny ankles
- Skinny feet
- Wide feet
- Slightly abnormal foot shape
- Custom boot height
- Special frame-mounting hole placement
How Do We Fix These Problems?
Wide feet: We build up the last (the foot-shaped form used to construct the boot) to make it wider. A faxed foot tracing to the boot manufacturer helps a lot in this case.
Skinny feet: We use a smaller size last and build it up to the correct length. For example, if you’re a size 10 in length but a size 8 in width, we use a size 8 last and extend it to size 10 length. Half sizes can also be semi-custom ordered.
Skinny ankles: You’ll know you have skinny ankles if, when tightening your boot, the two sides of the boot touch before you get a firm fit. The fix is either adding foam to the inside of the tongue, or — when ordering semi-custom — we cut back the top of the boot so the sides don’t meet when laced.
Slightly abnormal foot shapes: Can be fixed in certain cases, though a fully custom boot may be more appropriate. Boot height can also be adjusted to the skater’s preference.
Lead Times & Important Notes
- Narrow, wide, and double-wide fits are made to order and take 6–8 weeks (not kept in stock).
- MyBont, semi-custom, and full custom orders with moulding/casting take approximately 10–12 weeks.
- Allow an additional 2 weeks if our factory has a scheduled holiday during that period.
Please note: In most cases, semi-custom boots are non-returnable. Unlike off-the-shelf boots, they are made specifically for you and cannot simply be returned for a refund.
Orders that are narrow, wide, double wide, MyBont semi-custom, or MyBont full custom cannot be changed or cancelled after 72 hours of placing the order, as they will already be in production.
It’s essential to have a snug, comfortable speed boot to get the responsiveness you need. Many problems skaters experience are simply down to ill-fitting boots — a semi-custom solution can make all the difference.
